Cooking with herbs can make any meal more delicious and unique. Herbs can add flavor not just to meat and vegetable dishes but you can also include them into desserts. While cooking with herbs you will experience mouth watering aromas that will waken the taste of your foods without the need for added salt. If you can grow and use fresh herbs it will be even better. Here are ways to use some of the most popular herbs.
Basil is one of the most common herbs that can be used with a
variety of foods such as pasta, roasted vegetables and any tomato
dishes. It is a fragrant herb that has a sweet, earthy and peppery
taste.
Rosemary is also an aromatic herb that is very versatile and can be used in many ways. You can use it in fruit salads and desserts also for a piney, pungent flavor. Rosemary is commonly used with meats like fish, poultry and especially lamb. It is also great in soups and stews.
Thyme has a strong flavor that is spicy and sweet. This great savory herbs is best when added to any hearty winter meal like meat stews, thick soups and sauces. Thyme can also be used to compliment shellfish and vegetables.
Parsley,.although most popular as a garnish, goes great with fish dishes. Use this on all kinds of salads, soups and dressings to add a mild peppery taste that has a hint of celery flavor. Parsley is very so popular because it can considered an all purpose herbs as it can be added to almost any food.
Chives are a member of the onion family and their taste is similar but more delicate and subtle. If you are looking for a garlic and onion flavor but want to go milder, this is the perfect choice. Chives blend great with tomato, potato and fish dishes and are very rich in vitamin A and C.
Tarragon is a very strong herb which is bittersweet and has a licorice flavor. This herb should be used sparingly as its flavor is very powerful and can overwhelm. A touch of it in dressings or when added to sauces toward the end of cooking is best.
